This looks like a story of an unknown mother holding her child while trying to fit back into her world, which she no longer fits into so easily… This is a portrait of all the mothers, regardless of their cultural background or other characteristics. Not that we signed up for this ^^, but once we embarked on this journey, we were given a sort of superpower to survive and be a good example for our babies.

 

I was freshly married when I saw this moment in front of me in a museum in India. I was naive and a traveller and got the impulse to take a photograph of this beautiful moment of an angelic child asleep on her mother’s shoulder, not being bothered by the heat and the noise around…

 

I kept this image in my head for almost a decade, not knowing why and not knowing what to do with it, only to realise recently that this is my self-portrait as well.
