This looks like a story of an unknown mother holding her child while trying to fit back into her world, which she no longer fits into so easily…
I kept this image in my head for almost a decade, not knowing why and not knowing what to do with it, only to realise recently that this is my self-portrait as well.

What Held and What Calls is meant to unsettle. It collects every fear and presses its weight down into the board with every layered line mark, so I can rise from it lighter. Call it a somatic practice of an artistic kind.
